WASHINGTON, DC — The federal government will order more than 5,000 hybrids this year, doubling the size of its hybrid fleet to more than 11,000.
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) will also buy about 100 plug-in hybrids in 2011, President Barack Obama said today as part of a larger announcement on his broad energy security strategy.

Vad är 100 pluginhybrider i USA? I stort sett ingenting.
Det hade varit annorlunda om han sagt att det amerikanska postverket beställde 20.000 pluginhybrider på ett bräde.
För det skulle de kunna göra.

Men en elbil (hybridbil) som får sin el från ett kolkraftverk blir ändå ett bra klimatalternativ tack vare att elbilens elförbrukning är så låg.

Jo, men sedan har Du ju också att förnyelsebar el och kärnkraft ökar i USA och de som propagerar för elbilar i USA säger ofta att de kan gå på vindel, vilket naturligtvis delvis kan vara sant.
Har man kol som bas kan man också antingen göra el till elbilar (med 20% total effektivitet) eller bensin till bensinbilar (med 7% total effektivitet). Dvs. den dag man framställer bensin ur kol på samma sätt som SASOL i Sydafrika.
